Psychiatrists are an important part of managing bipolar. I saw a young psychologist before my diagnosis. The one main thing I took away from my sessions with him was his recommendation of the book called "Boundaries". I've mentioned the title to several people and browsed the pages many times.
After my diagnosis, I had a female team. A few more changes took place before I ended up where I am today. My doctor works with me. He asks what I think of certain medications, or of the dose. He doesn't just want to hear about the negative days, he wants to hear about the positives so he can see how I'm progressing.
I've been fortunate. I've had excellent doctors. But when I didn't feel the match was right, I didn't hesitate to speak up.
