Bipolar symptoms can increase when we isolate ourselves from others because we have more time to focus on the darkness and the negativity. Yet finding the energy to maintain a social life can be stressful. Finding the correct balance is hard work that doesn't happen overnight.

Family and friends are not always willing to extend a hand though. That gives us a reason to stay home and become loners then.

The best thing we can do is be open and honest about our disorder so those around us can better understand how to help us and include us in their lives.
